One of the major selling points of Google's Pixel smartphone since launch has been its camera, which has managed to impress both users and critics alike. Interestingly, an app developer has now figured out a way to bring the same camera improvements (on the software side) that are carried out on by the Google camera app on Pixel smartphones to other Android smartphones that feature capable processors. Separately, Google has pushed out a new update to the Google Camera app (v4.4) that allows users to take selfies with flash. Talking first about the workaround to get the Pixel-like image processing, specifically the HDR+ feature, an Ukranian developer who goes by the name B-S-G has shared a modified version of the search giant's Google Camera app. This modified version of the app reportedly brings along the HDR+ image processing to any device that features either a Snapdragon 820, Snapdragon 821, or Snapdragon 835 SoC. SoundCloud saved by emergency funding as CEO steps aside

Image
SoundCloud has just closed the necessary funding round to keep the struggling music service afloat. CEO Alex Ljung will step aside though remain chairman as former Vimeo CEO Kerry Trainor replaces him. Mike Weissman will become COO as SoundCloud co-founder and CTO Eric Wahlforss stays as chief product officer. New York investment bank Raine Group and Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund Temasek have stepped in to lead the new Series F funding round of $169.5 million. SoundCloud laid off 40 percent of its staff last month, with 173 employees departing in an effort to cut costs. The company only had enough runway left to last into Q4, and today’s investor decision was viewed as a do-or-die moment for the company. Now it will have the opportunity to try to right the ship, or sail into an established port via acquisition. SoundCloud declined to share the valuation or quantity of the new funding round. Yesterday, Axios reported the company was raising $169.5 million at a $150 m

Short video games breaks during work may combat stress: Study

Image
WASHINGTON: Feeling stressed during the workday? Playing video games may help, say scientists who suggest that engaging in such enjoyable activities during short breaks can help employees recharge themselves. People regularly experience cognitive fatigue related to stress, frustration, and anxiety while at work. Those in safety-critical fields, such as air traffic control and health care, are at an even greater risk for cognitive fatigue, which could lead to errors. Given the amount of time that people spend playing games on their smartphones and tablets, researchers wanted to evaluate whether casual video game play is an effective way to combat workplace stress during rest breaks. Researchers from University of Central Florida in the US used a computer-based task to induce cognitive fatigue in 66 participants, who were then given a five-minute rest break. During the break, participants either played a casual video game called Sushi Cat , participated in a guided rela

Samsung could launch two wearable devices along with Galaxy Note 8

Image
NEW DELHI: Looks like the Galaxy Note 8 isn't the only device Samsung is readying to launch on August 23. It's been reported that the company could launch a new wearable device along with its latest flagship smartphone. As spotted by Android Headlines, a new fitness band going by the moniker 'Samsung Gear Sport' has passed FCC (Federal Communications Commission). It is worth mentioning that since the product has passed FCC, it will in be -- in all likeliness -- ready to be released. Also, Samsung used last year's IFA trade show to introduce a new Gear fitness band and this year it could do the same. IFA 2017 starts in Berlin on September 1 and will go till September 6. No concrete details about the Gear Sport have been revealed. However, the listing says the device will support Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, which is pretty much the standard for a fitness band. The device may run on Samsung's own Tizen OS. Since the device has 'Sports' in its name, it co

No Under-Glass Touch ID In Apple IPhone 8

Image
In a breather to its rival Samsung, Apple has decided to give its Touch ID security solution for its forthcoming "iPhone 8" handset a pass and will instead rely on face unlock feature for all works, an analyst has said. The move has left the door open for Samsung to bring the similar technology in next year's Galaxy Note 9, AppleInsider reported. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple has "cancelled" plans to embed a fingerprint recognition solution in the next-generation flagship iPhone. "The analyst left embedded Touch ID off a list of standout 'iPhone 8' features published in July but did not indicate that Apple had abandoned the initiative altogether," the report quoted Kuo as saying. The analyst said Apple would swap out capacitive sensing technology with an optical solution capable of accepting readings. The prediction also contradicts the reports claiming that Apple was building an under-glass fingerprint sensors a reality

What is Sarahah and Why is it the Hottest App in Town?

Image
It wasn’t that long ago when pretty much the only things that went viral were cute cat videos and “Charlie bit my Finger”. That, and maybe, a few chain-mails that threatened you with disastrous consequences if you didn’t forward them to 20 unfortunate souls in your contact list within the next 24-hours. However, with the advent of online social media, the type stuff that goes viral has expanded vastly, from memes to tweets and from conspiracy theories to apps and everything in between. One such app that recently went viral and got everyone talking is ‘Sarahah’ and, if reports are to be believed, is all set to become one of the most downloaded apps ever. So, what is Sarahah and why is there so much buzz around it? What is Sarahah and Why is it in the Headlines? The Sarahah app was created by Saudi Arabian developer Zain al-Abidin Tawfiq who originally started Sarahah.com to allow employees to anonymously share their honest feedback about their company without feeling restr

How to Use YouTube’s New Share Feature

Image
Whenever I am free, most of my time is spent on YouTube. Just like everybody else, I also go down YouTube’s rabbit hole, playing on any video which might seem interesting. Once in a while, I might find a video which is just too good and is screaming to get shared. Thankfully, YouTube gave us the ability to share videos on the different social media platforms. However, if you don’t want to share the video publicly, but just with some friends of yours, the only option was to share the link of the video through different messaging apps. If you had ever tried to do that, you must know that the whole process was a big mess, both for the sender and the receiver. It seems that YouTube was also aware of this problem, as they have just launched a new share feature which is pretty cool. In today’s article, we are going to show you everything there is to know about the YouTube’s share feature and how to use it. What is YouTube Share? As you could have guessed from the name, YouT

Scientists successfully infiltrate computer using malware coded into DNA

Image
In what reads like science fiction becoming reality, researchers at the University of Washington have been able to successfully infect a computer with malware coded into a strand of DNA. In order to see if a computer could be compromised in that way, the team included a known security vulnerability in a DNA-processing program before creating a synthetic DNA strand with the malicious code embedded. A computer then analyzed the “infected” strand, and as a result of the malware in the DNA, the researchers were able to remotely exploit the computer. The results were published in a recent paper. “We wanted to understand what new computer security risks are possible in the interaction between biomolecular information and the computer systems that analyze it,” the researchers wrote, led by Tadayoshi Kohno, a professor of computer science at the University of Washington. The basic structural units of DNA are called nucleotides, and they’re stored as letters A, C, G, and T. Sequ

Android O will (sorta) be the end of the road for the OnePlus 3/3T

Image
After the OnePlus 2’s very lukewarm response, there was much rejoicing when the OnePlus 3, and later the OnePlus 3T, turned out to be a return to form for OnePlus. With the company’s attention now on the OnePlus 5, however, it might not come as a huge shock that Oliver Z, OnePlus’ head of product, confirmed that the OnePlus 3/3T will not be given major software updates following Android O. In an interview with OnePlus’ community manager, Oliver confirmed the eventual move, though the phones will still get security patch updates “for the foreseeable future”: Android O is going to be the last Android version update we’ll release for OP3/3T. We’ll continue to release security patch updates for the foreseeable future, and offer support for individual application updates. On one hand, I understand that, the OnePlus 3/3T will have gotten two major software updates by the time Android O lands, a schedule that even Google adheres to with Nexus and Pixel phones. Also, at least OnePlu
